Prices checked July 2026. "Managed OpenClaw hosts" pricing reflects MyClaw's published Lite/Pro/Max tiers ($19/$39/$79/mo); comparable services cluster in the same range. All non-AnyAIAgent options bill model tokens separately through your own provider accounts — for an active agent that's commonly another $10–50+/mo on top.
OpenClaw is genuinely open source, the community is excellent, and running it on a spare machine costs nothing but time. If you enjoy Docker, config files, and owning every byte, this is the most educational option — and your data never leaves the house. The trade: you're the ops team, and you still start from a blank agent.
A $6 Hetzner box runs OpenClaw fine. You'll handle hardening, updates, backups, and the 2 a.m. restart yourself. Cheapest always-on option in raw dollars; most expensive in attention.
Services like MyClaw and KiloClaw sell a clean, pre-installed OpenClaw container from about $19/mo — updates and backups handled, one-click start. It's a real category and for developers it's a fair deal. Two things to know before you buy: you still configure the agent yourself and wire up your own model API keys (token costs come on top of the subscription), and vendor transparency varies — check whether the operator publishes a company entity, founder names, and a security posture before you hand over billing details and API keys.
